Morning Services

Our morning service on Sunday starts at 10am. It is our intention to make each service lively and interesting. To that end, we have a variety of leaders who bring a refreshing difference to each service. After the service we meet for tea and coffee. We look forward to this time to meet any new visitors, our theme being that "there are no strangers here, only friends we have yet to meet."

The Sunday morning service blends both traditional and contemporary elements of worship.

The sermons at Scarborough Baptist are designed to give us exposure to the complete message of the Bible by balancing preaching from the different Old and New Testament books as well as the different styles of text (such as stories, letters, prophecy etc) that we encounter in the Bible. We also take time to reflect on some of the major theological themes that are developed in Scripture and that we need to understand in order to understand the implications of the message for our selves and the world in which we live.

Sunday School

Our church believes that children's ministry is extremely important. Although the church is a place where we should get together as a family from every different age group, we feel that sermons are often not aimed at younger children and that they also need to be taught biblical truths, but in a way which they can understand and enjoy. During the sermon our children go out for Sunday School where much fun is had pasting, cutting, colouring and learning about God in a fun way. (Children's stories are also often included in the morning worship service time.)

Evening Services

Every Sunday at 7pm there is a short service, most often with a focus on sharing the good news that Jesus Christ has come to this world for each and every one of us. This follows on from the Sundays@six meal and is fairly informal. Sometimes the evening can take the form of a concert or film show but usually it is a short message based on a passage from the Bible.

We keep a range of Bibles in a number of languages available for those who do not have one - or for backpackers who might have left theirs at home.

There is always coffee, tea, milo and ice-cream on offer after the service.

We form part of the "Backpacking is it" network. This network consists of many churches across the globe who have decided to reach out to backpackers. If you are seeking a backpacker-sensitive church, this is a great place to start.
