Bible Studies

Introduction

It is very important for Christians to meet together in small groups to share in a practical and more intimate level with each other around the message of the gospel. At Scarborough all the members are encouraged to become part of such a group.

Bible Study: Monday AM

Every Monday morning, those who can gather to discuss the sermon of the previous morning, as well as many other theological issues. This group is open to any person. Why not join us? Contact us for further details.

New Testament Study: Monday PM

A group meets on the second and fourth weeks of the month, and focuses on in-depth biblical teaching. At the moment the group is working through an overview of the New Testament.  Apart from the formal study time, the group also has a time of sharing where we discuss the cares and joys of our day to day lives with each other and try to work out how to cope with all the different issues in the light of the Biblical message and through the power of the Spirit. This group has supported each other through a range of difficult situations and members see it as essential for their spiritual growth. Everyone is free to join. For details, contact us.

Home Group: Monday PM

Another group meets on the first and third Mondays of every month. It's for those interested in doing evangelism and practical outreach. At the moment we are working through a Bible study on the gospels. At the end of each Bible study series we work on a project or projects to realise the implications of the messages gleaned from the study. All are welcome to join. For more information, simply contact us.

Ladies' Support Group: Tuesday PM

We have a number of single ladies in our church who have particular needs, whether they have never been married, are widowed or divorced. On Tuesday evenings they form a support group which meets to share over Bible study. Much time is also spent in prayer and, of course, there are those cups of tea and coffee at times in between and all those phonecalls. Anyone who feels the need for this type of support is welcome to join with us. If you would like to know more, contact us.

Youth: Wednesday PM

The Wednesday night group has been going for about four years now, and continues to be of great benefit to the church. We started with bi-monthly meetings and then shifted to meeting weekly. We meet in each others' homes under the leadership of Chad  and Louise Power.

We feel it is important to reinforce the biblical message in both discussion and action. We would love more people to join us. For more information, contact us.

Christianity Explained: Tuesday AM and Thursday PM

In 2008 we have run two groups for those who want to find out more about who Christ Jesus is. This has been exciting and we would love to run  more of these in 2009 - and are always praying that more people will want to find out about our faith. These are ideal groups for those who want to know more about Christianity and what it means to know God personally. There is no pressure to conform; it is merely an exploration of the gospel in an open forum style. All are more than welcome. For further information, contact us.

Prayer groups

Prayer forms the heart of the church. Through prayer the church acknowledges its dependence on God for the impossible work to which it has been called. Prayer also demonstrates our practical reliance on God for our own needs and the needs of others in the church and the community. At Scarborough church members are divided into sets of prayer partners (usually three) who commit themselves to regularly pray for each other. There is also a prayer group who meet each Sunday morning to pray for the church services as well as missions world-wide.
